McDonald’s CEO Queasy Over Restaurant Calorie Counts

clipped from blogs.wsj.com

McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner isn’t too keen on efforts to force restaurants to post calorie counts on their menus.

At a restaurant trade show in Chicago this past weekend, Skinner called those pushing for such regulations “professional naysayers” and “CAVE people,” meaning “Citizens Against Virtually Everything,” the Chicago Tribune reports.

New York City is leading the charge, with tough rules requiring chain restaurants to post calorie counts in the same place as food items — on menu boards in the case of fast-food restaurants like McDonald’s.

Advocates counter that Web info isn’t available as customers line up to order their Big Macs (540 calories), and packaging data isn’t read until after a purchase is made.
