Civilian Unemployment Rate 901 (Graph, Index, Scaled)

Are things really worse than they were in 1980=1982?

The following is an Index Scale.

Adjusted to December, 2007 equals 100 on the scale.

Note: the parents of the baby boomers started retiring in big numbers around 1980. Notice what started happening in 1982. Economy picked up, hiring picked up. At the same time, people via retirement were leaving the work force in size.

The perfect storm for a big drop in unemployment.

Same thing will happen in the years ahead.
