PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES - JULY 2013


The Producer Price Index for finished goods was unchanged in July, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Prices for finished goods moved up 0.8 percent in June and 0.5 percent in May.

At the earlier stages of processing, prices received by manufacturers of intermediate goods also were unchanged in July, and the crude goods index rose 1.2 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, prices for finished goods advanced 2.1 percent for the 12 months ended July 2013. (See table A.)

The Producer Price Index for finished goods rose 0.5 percent in May, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES - FEBRUARY 2013


The Producer Price Index for finished goods increased 0.7 percent in February, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Prices for finished goods moved up 0.2 percent in January and declined 0.3 percent in December. At the earlier stages of processing, the index for intermediate goods advanced 1.3 percent in February, and crude goods prices decreased 0.3 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, the finished goods index moved up 1.7 percent for the 12 months ended February 2013, the largest 12-month increase since a 2.3-percent rise in October 2012. (See table A.)

PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES - OCTOBER 2012


The Producer Price Index for finished goods declined 0.2 percent in October, seasonallyadjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Prices for finished goods increased 1.1 percent in September and 1.7 percent in August.

At the earlier stages of processing, prices received by manufacturers of intermediate goods edged down 0.1 percent in October, and the crude goods index moved up 0.9 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, the finished goods index advanced 2.3 percent for the 12 months ended October 2012, the largest rise since a 2.8-percent increase for the 12 months ended March 2012. (See table A.)

PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES - FEBRUARY 2012


The Producer Price Index for finished goods advanced 0.4 percent in February, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Finished goods prices rose 0.1 percent in January and decreased 0.1 percent in December. At the earlier stages of processing, the index for intermediate goods moved up 0.7 percent and crude goods prices increased 0.4 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, the finished goods index rose 3.3 percent for the 12 months ended February 2012, the smallest year-over-year rise since a similar 3.3-percent advance in August 2010. (See table A.)

PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES – APRIL 2010


The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods declined 0.1 percent in April, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. This decrease followed a 0.7 percent advance in March and a 0.6 percent decrease in February. At the earlier stages of processing, prices received by producers of intermediate goods moved up 0.8 percent and the crude goods index fell 1.2 percent. On an unadjusted basis, prices for finished goods advanced 5.5 percent for the 12 months ended April 2010, their sixth consecutive 12-month increase.

Eggs UP, Energy UP, Food UP, PPI UP, Claims UP


The price of fresh eggs jumped 44 percent, the most since records began in 1992.
Energy goods increased 0.7 percent.
The price of food jumped 1.5 percent.
Producer prices (PPI) rose .3 percent.
Initial jobless claims rose by 32,000 to 637,000 in the week ended May 9, from a revised 605,000 the prior week.

The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods increased 0.3 percent in April, seasonally adjusted, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. This rise followed a 1.2-percent decline in March and a 0.1-percent increase in February. At the earlier stages of processing, prices received by producers of intermediate goods moved down 0.5 percent following a 1.5-percent decrease a month earlier, and the crude goods index advanced 3.0 percent after declining 0.3 percent in March.

In the week ending May 9, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 637,000, an increase of 32,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 605,000. The 4-week moving average was 630,500, an increase of 6,000 from the previous week's revised average of 624,500.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 4.9 percent for the week ending May 2, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's unrevised rate of 4.8 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending May 2 was 6,560,000, an increase of 202,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 6,358,000. The 4-week moving average was 6,337,250, an increase of 128,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 6,208,500.

The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods decreased 1.2 percent in March, seasonally adjusted, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. This decline followed a 0.1-percent advance in February and a 0.8-percent increase in January. At the earlier stages of processing, prices received by producers of intermediate goods fell 1.5 percent after decreasing 0.9 percent a month earlier, and the crude goods index declined 0.3 percent following a 4.5-percent drop in February.

Among finished goods, the index for energy goods turned down 5.5 percent in March
after rising 1.3 percent in the preceding month. Prices for finished consumer goods less foods and energy inched up 0.1 percent following a 0.4-percent advance in February. The capital equipment index fell 0.2 percent in March after moving up 0.1 percent in the prior month. By contrast, partially offsetting the downturn in finished goods prices, the decline in the index for finished consumer foods slowed to 0.7 percent in March from 1.6 percent in the previous month.

Excluding foods and energy, finished goods prices were unchanged following a 0.2-percent rise in February.

During the first quarter of 2009, the finished goods index declined at a 0.9-percent
seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR), after falling at a 24.9-percent SAAR during the fourth quarter of 2008. This slower rate of decrease can be traced to prices for finished energy goods, which moved down at a 2.7-percent SAAR for the 3 months ended in March after dropping at a 76.7-percent SAAR for the 3 months ended in December. Conversely, the index for finished consumer foods decreased at a 10.1-percent SAAR for the 3 months ended in March after falling at a 4.8-percent SAAR for the 3 months ended in December. Prices for finished goods less foods and energy increased at a 2.6-percent SAAR during the first quarter of 2009 after rising at the same rate in the fourth quarter of 2008. At the earlier stages of processing, the intermediate
goods index moved down at an 11.7-percent SAAR during the first quarter of 2009 after falling at a 39.7-percent SAAR during the fourth quarter of 2008, and prices for crude goods decreased at a 27.2-percent SAAR for the 3 months ended in March after dropping at a 78.0-percent SAAR for the 3 months ended in December.
