THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- AUGUST 2013


Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 169,000 in August, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 7.3 percent, the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Employment rose in retail trade and health care but declined in information.

THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- NOVEMBER 2012


Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 146,000 in November, and the unemployment rate edged down to 7.7 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. 

Employment increased in retail trade, professional and business services, and health care.

Among the marginally attached, there were 979,000 discouraged workers in November, little changed from a year earlier.

Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 120,000 in March, and the unemploymen trate was little changed at 8.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Employment rose in manufacturing, food services and drinking places, and health care, but was down in retail trade.

THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- DECEMBER 2011


Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 200,000 in December, and the unemployment rate, at 8.5 percent, continued to trend down, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Job gains occurred in transportation and warehousing, retail trade, manufacturing, health care, and mining.

THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- NOVEMBER 2011


The unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percentage point to 8.6 percent in November, and nonfarm payroll employment rose by 120,000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Employment continued to trend up in retail trade, leisure and hospitality, professional and business services, and health care. Government employment continued to trend down.

Jobs Report, The Employment Situation October 2011


Nonfarm payroll employment continued to trend up in October (+80,000),and the unemployment rate was little changed at 9.0 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Employment in the private sector rose, with modest job growth continuing in professional and businesses services, leisure and hospitality, health care, and mining.Government employment continued to trend down.

Both the number of unemployed persons (13.9 million) and the unemployment rate (9.0 percent) changed little over the month. The unemployment rate has remained in a narrow range from 9.0 to 9.2percent since April.

THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- SEPTEMBER 2011 (Detailed Breakdown)


Nonfarm payroll employment edged up by 103,000 in September, and the unemployment rate held at 9.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

The increase in employment partially reflected the return to payrolls of about 45,000, telecommunications workers who had been on strike in August. In September, job gains occurred in professional and business services, health care, and construction.

Government employment continued to trend down.
