Suncor (SU) 2011 Review
Suncor Energy (SU) explores, acquires, develops, produces and markets crude oil and natural gas from (Canadian) oil sands, refines crude oil and markets petroleum and petroleum products.
SU has grown profits at a 19%+ rate over the past ten years, while raising its dividend at a 14% rate. The company’s varied dramatically ranging from 4% to 24%. SU experienced a fall off in profits during the recent economic down turn but should see future growth as a result of :
(1) the benefits from its merger with Petro-Canada. The combined entity will possess the largest oil sands resource, the strongest downstream asset base, the most solid exploration and production in Canada plus improved organizational skills and a superior balance between up stream and down stream operations,

Spot Oil Price: West Texas Intermediate, Monthly, Dollars per Barrel
The price has risen more than $10 a barrel in the last two months.
Latest reading $49.79 a barrel versus $47.98 in March and $39.16 a barrel in April.

Crude OIL What Next (Chart)
The trading range for crude oil continues to narrow. Support is now at $50 a barrel and resistance is around $56 basis the June futures contract.
The daily chart continues to show congestion and a breakout or breakdown is needed before a change in direction can be predicted.
The monthly chart shows a similar pattern with a major congestion over the last 4 months. A breakout above 56 is likely to result in an almost immediate rise to $60 a barrel.
The recent surges in copper and soybeans lead me to believe that crude oil is heading higher soon. It will be worthwhile to watch if the seasonal demand for gasoline kicks in as weather improves.
